How to Add a Custom Background

Available on: Pro, Premium

Your background can be a flat colour or your own image or video, and you can set a different one for desktop so a wide screen gets something sized for it rather than a stretched phone-shaped image.

Where the settings are

1. Log in, open My Pages and click the page you want to edit

2. Click Customize, then Advanced

3. Choose Background

There are four options inside it.

Upload an image or video

1. Open Page Media, or Desktop Media for the wide-screen version

2. Click Upload image or Upload video, or drop a file onto the area

3. Toggle Repeat Background if you want a pattern to tile instead of filling the screen

File requirements

Making it readable

• Busy images hurt. Your name, bio and link text sit on top of the background. A photo with a lot going on makes all of it harder to read.

• Check the text colours after. Set your background first, then adjust text colour under Customize, Advanced, Text so it still has contrast.

• Short loops beat long clips. A few seconds is plenty, and it keeps you inside the size limit.

Common questions

My video will not upload.

It is almost always the size. The limit is 5 MB, and it has to be MP4. Trim it and re-export at a lower bitrate.

What does Repeat Background do?

It tiles your image rather than stretching it to fill the screen. It suits patterns and textures, not photographs.

Why is my background cut off on desktop?

A tall phone-shaped image gets cropped on a wide screen. Set a separate Desktop Media image sized for landscape.

Can I remove a background I uploaded?

Yes. Open the same screen and clear it. If you are on a free plan and have media set from before, you can still remove it.

Do I need Pro?

Yes, for uploading your own background media. Preset themes include backgrounds and are available on every plan.
