Change Your hoo.be Handle
2 min read · Updated
Available on: Pro, Premium
Your handle is the hoo.be address people type to reach you, for example hoo.be/yourhandle. It is also the prefix on every direct link you share, so changing it changes those too.
Change your handle
Log in and click Account in the sidebar
Select Profile Settings, then Handle
Type the handle you want and wait for the availability check
Save
What a handle can contain
3 to 50 characters
Lowercase letters, numbers, periods and underscores. Capitals are converted to lowercase automatically.
It cannot start or end with a period or underscore
It cannot contain two periods or underscores in a row
It has to be unique, and some words are reserved by hoo.be
Hyphens, spaces, @ symbols and slashes are not allowed. If you use one, the field tells you which character it rejected.
What changes when you save
Your new address works immediately. So does the breakage, so it is worth doing this deliberately.
Your old address stops working. There is no forwarding from your previous handle, so anyone following an old link reaches nothing.
Every direct link changes. Direct links are built from your handle, so hoo.be/oldhandle/shop becomes hoo.be/newhandle/shop and the old one stops resolving.
Anything printed stays wrong. QR codes, packaging and video captions keep pointing at the old handle.
Update your social bios, your link in video descriptions and anywhere else you have shared it, ideally in the same sitting.
Common questions
Can I change my handle on the free plan?
No. Handle changes need Pro or Premium. On the free plan you keep the handle you chose when you signed up.
Can I get my old handle back?
Only if nobody else has taken it. A released handle goes back into the pool straight away, so there is no guarantee.
Does my page content change?
No. Your links, blocks, theme and analytics all stay exactly as they are. Only the address changes.
Why is a handle unavailable when nothing is at that address?
Either someone holds it without a public page, or it is on the reserved list because hoo.be uses it for its own pages.
📢 Tip: Pick the handle you would want on a business card, then leave it alone. The cost of changing is not the change itself, it is every old link that quietly stops working.
